Deirdre Sanders, Principal at Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds, Elected to Serve as BPLA President-Elect

At the Annual Meeting of the Boston Patent Law Association (BPLA) held on December 7, 2017, Deirdre Sanders, a Principal at Hamilton Brook Smith Reynolds, was elected to the position of President-Elect. As President-Elect, Deirdre works with the Co-Chairs of the BPLA’s 25 committees to provide high quality educational seminars and social events, as well as solicit and coordinate input regarding rules and laws affecting the intellectual property profession. Deirdre will serve as the President of the organization for a one-year term starting in December 2018.
The firm is proud to be a long-time supporter of the BPLA and has been home to seven past presidents since 1972. John L. Deirdre served as Vice President of the BPLA in 2017 and enjoyed being editor of the quarterly newsletter. She reached out to many firms, companies and organizations in the Boston area and beyond to compile the content for the newsletters, which helped her acquire a better understanding of the membership base. Deirdre has dedicated well over ten years to BPLA since 2003, in a number of positions, including as member of the Board of Governors, Treasurer, Secretary, Co-chair of the International and Foreign Practice Committee, and participation in the BPLA Task Force for a USPTO Satellite Office and the Invented Here! program.

Deirdre has 20 years of experience in strategic biotechnology patent prosecution counseling and in intellectual property litigation and enforcement. She is dedicated to guiding clients through the development, management, and protection of intellectual property rights to achieve their business goals.
Deirdre’s patent practice is focused in the field of biotechnology with a particular emphasis in the areas of biologics including antibody-based therapeutics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, immuno-oncology and immunotherapy, genetic diagnostics, protein-based sensors, and drug discovery and development. She assists clients with the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications, as well as European Supplementary Protection Certificates for pharmaceuticals; drafts legal opinions regarding infringement, validity, and freedom to operate; and conducts intellectual property due diligence studies.
