We hosted an event presented by the Boston Patent Law Association’s International and Foreign Practice Committee, with Ms. Juliana Chua, Director of Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) – International.
Attendees found out how recent IP initiatives in Singapore provide intriguing advantages for international prosecution, which are increasingly being utilized by U.S.-based patent filers. Singapore is now an option as an International Searching Authority (ISA) in PCT applications filed by U.S. applicants. Singapore examiners conduct their searches in both English and Chinese-language databases, so that the large volume of Chinese-language patent references can be searched, while the search report will be in English. This and other IP initiatives in Singapore will be discussed.
