MIT Enterprise Forum Event Description
At the MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge Beantown Throwdown (#BeantownThrowdown) you choose how much money to invest in each startup from the pile of (fake) cash we’ll hand you at the door. The throwdown consists of 3-min pitches from a cross-section of local student entrepreneurs representing: Babson, Berklee, Boston University, Boston College, Harvard, MIT, UMass Lowell, Northeastern and Wentworth. The startups that receive the most money win. The teams are:
- GoBag is an ultra-light flexible water container, with outstanding design and awesome graphics, that can be folded, flattened, or rolled to fit any pocket, allowing you to conveniently bring your water everywhere. Because it is reusable, GoBag helps reduce the carbon footprint in the environment by replacing single-use plastic bottles used in bottled water. (Babson)
- Beat list is an app that tunes you in to music playing around you in real-time. Show off what you’re listening to and discover new music from others. Connect with Tastemakers and become one yourself. (Berklee)
- Downtyme, the first app to save you from your smart phone. (Boston University)
- ClassHack is an online platform where students submit video lessons on professors and courses they just aced. (Boston College)
- Tomato Jos is an agricultural production company that believes in the power of farming and processing local food products for local consumption. Their mission is to make tomato production a sustainable, profitable business for the farmers with whom they work. (Harvard)
- Tvision Insights brings the effectiveness of digital media to the “offline” world of television. (MIT)
- Dash originated from the idea of having a smaller more portable transportation system than a bicycle or car to get around campus, as well as Boston. (Northeastern University)
- Nonspec is committed to designing, developing, and delivering a low cost and durable prosthetic for developing nations. (UMass Lowell)
- Gentoo bridges the gap between patients and medical device companies. Their innovative products allow patients the ability to experience their lives by limiting the impact their treatment set-ups have on their quality of life. (Wentworth)
